Conserving a huge building like Lincoln Cathedral is a mammoth task and one that only specialists in the field can undertake. An ancient building such as Lincoln Cathedral which is steeped in history needs constant care and attention to keep it in top condition. Therefore a rolling programme of works is devised to make sure we safeguard the building for future generations.
Lincoln is one of only a few Cathedrals in England to have its own workforce dedicated to the conservation of the building. There are five craft teams: Stonemasonry and Conservation; Glazing; Carpentry/Joinery; Leadwork; Domus (Engineering and Maintenance). The Department has its own Archivist and is supported by a small office team.
